About US

Mission

Hyde Park Jr. Spartans will make every effort to ensure that every child with the desire to participate gets the opportunity to play or cheer, without regard to their prior experience or athletic ability. We are committed to instilling Honesty, Loyalty, Integrity, Teamwork, Discipline, Sportsmanship, Respect, and Leadership, in our young athletes. We believe these values and virtues are important to their growth and development thus enabling them to become active members of society. We will instill in our youth the challenge of competition, the joy of victory, and the reality of defeat!

Note from Howard Griffith

As the president of the Hyde Park Jr. Spartans program, I am excited to extend this opportunity to Chicago area youth in order to foster their athletic and social skills in football and cheerleading.

As a native of Chicago, I graduated from Percy L. Julian High School on Chicago’s south side. This Chicago Public School education afforded me the opportunity to enroll at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana as a student-athlete. My hard work on the football field prepared me for a career in the NFL. As a result, I played 11 years in the National Football League and won 2 Super Bowl championships. My philosophy is all children should be equipped with positive character-building attributes such as honesty, loyalty, integrity, teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, respect and leadership. Our program is designed to couple character building opportunities with hands-on instruction that will promote the social and athletic development of your child. It is our belief that everyone can do their best, and it is our goal to help them reach their full potential. I look forward to all that this season will bring.

Thank you for your support!

Howard T. Griffith
